Participating in ACE is worth it to me because I can learn so much more about being engaged, active, and helpful by going to India and experiencing a new community than I could ever learn from just training and practicing on campus. I might not develop my athletic skills in India to the same degree I could at Stanford during the three week program, but in the long run, it is important to ask ourselves what matter most to us. For me, understanding other perspectives and becoming a global citizen are very important aspects of life that not many people get the chance to develop.
As part of the ACE in India program, participants will be teaching and coaching children and youth, with a focus on educational and leadership development through sports and teaching English and other subjects in classrooms.
Kristina’s past experiences with service include involvement in the Stanford Student Space Initiative’s High-Altitude Balloons Team and the Society of Women Engineers.
