“The ACE program is a once-in-a-lifetime experience that allows us as student-athletes to be a part of something greater than ourselves and make an impact in our partner communities. As student-athletes, we don’t have many opportunities to go abroad due to our athletic commitment, so when I heard about ACE I knew it was something I wanted to be a part of.”
Nathaniel Hartley’s past experience with service includes lifeguarding and coaching children at his local swim club. He has also volunteered at Camp Joy, a camp for adults with mental and physical disabilities. Along with his teammates, he has participated in “Swimming with the Blue Devils,” an initiative to teach local Durham children water safety and swimming skills; and Team Impact, in which a young boy with a life threatening illness, Brodie, has the opportunity to hang out with the swim team and be an honorary member of the team.
