Hello! Lyneé (Duke) and Amanda (Stanford) here! We’re going to show you around the CERS campus for our blog. Starting off, here we are at the glass gazebo, where we have spent some late nights bonding with the rest of the ACE members. Now we’re going to go to the front of the center!
Woah! As soon as we got to the front of the CERS center, we found one of our fearless leaders, Kalli! She’s always watching out for us, as you can see in this photo.
Ahh! Remember to stop and smell the flowers that the campers picked for us…but be careful of the BEES!!!!!!!!!!!
Ooooh! The dining area! This is where we have all of our meals–where Lyneé ate a fish eye and Amanda caught a fly with her chopsticks! Oh look there’s Tsering Drolma! She is our education coordinator, who brings humor and life to the CERS center.
Here we are at the CERS exhibit, which is located right outside the kitchen/eating area. They have some really cool artifacts. Lyneé is with a bow and arrow, and Amanda is with a yak doll made out of yak hairs! Now let’s go upstairs!
Ahhh! Here we are at the comfy (and sometimes smelly) corner, where we have daily reflections to talk about what went right and what we can improve on for the next day. This is what goes on during our camp planning sessions, which often times end in tears of laughter.
Here’s us demonstrating our AWESOME teaching/learning skills!!!!!! We watch a ton of films about the culture and other aspects that relate to the Yunnan province here.
Ahh the game room. This is where we spend time playing ping pong and watching “The Bachelorette.” (LET’S GO PETER!!!!!!!!)
Wow! Look at that view off of the balcony!…the landscape is pretty nice too. (@Lyneé)
On our way back to our rooms, we found some drawings that our campers made of us. How cute!
Ahh the notorious cheese house! This is where we have been sleeping, killing bugs, and having conversations through the thin walls. While at first it sounded odd that we would be staying in a “cheese house,” we later found out that it’s name came from the center discovering how to make yak cheese here! They later converted the building into a comfortable dorm, so it doesn’t smell like cheese anymore.
Hope you enjoyed our tour around the CERS center!
