Marykate McGuire is a junior on the Duke Women's Soccer Team. She is majoring in Political Science and minoring in Psychology. The South Africa program was the perfect opportunity for Marykate to experience another culture and engage in service. The program was an excellent connection between her love for learning, service, and her sport, to connect with a community that celebrated and enjoyed the same activities. She is looking forward to contributing as an ACE Ambassador to help future participants be prepared for an incredible journey and opportunity that will change their perspective and increase their passion for service and community.

AnaClare Sole is from Houston, Texas and grew up sailing on Galveston Bay before joining the Stanford Sailing team. She has competed in many international competitions including 3 world championships and the 2019 Summer Youth Olympics in Buenos Aires, Argentina were she was amongst 4000 International Athletes from over 200 countries. She loves meeting people from all over the world and getting to know their culture and perspectives. She is an Architectural Design major and is passionate about creating spaces. This summer she participated in the "ACE in Place" online engagement experience. During weekly Zoom sessions, she enjoyed meeting other Stanford and Duke athletes and deepening her community-engagement skills. She is looking forward to taking Design for Extreme Affordability at Stanford and hopes to use the skills she learns in this class to do community development work, environmental conservation and infrastructure projects with ACE in the future.

Laurel Foster is currently a junior on the Stanford Sailing team studying mechanical engineering. The ACE experience made sense for her because after 10 years as a Girl Scout, she felt the service aspect was missing from her college life. Through her role as a docent in the on-campus museums, she gets to develop and share her knowledge with the local community.

Sarah Johnson is a senior on the Stanford Field Hockey Team and intended to attend ACE in Vietnam this past summer, 2020. Sarah loves spending time with her teammates and is always up for a weekend beach trip off campus. Sarah was most looking forward to making connections with her peers and children while they each learned and grew from each others' experiences. Sarah is a Human Biology major who hopes to become a pediatric nurse upon graduating where she can continue to learn from children and gain different perspectives on life.

Amelia, a junior on the Women's Beach Volleyball team, is majoring in Human Biology. She is a member of the USA Collegiate Beach National Team and loves competing and working hard with teammates. With many past experiences of traveling to Central and South America to study Spanish and become fully immersed in cultures foreign to her own, she was ecstatic at the opportunity to transfer those skills, understanding, and wisdom to her time in South Africa. Working with the children and women in South Africa, Amelia learned much about the power of collaboration, the contagiousness of smiles, and how impactful service work can be on both the giver and receiver. Leaving South Africa enriched with new perspectives, she hopes to inspire more Stanford student-athletes to serve others through programs like ACE and she looks forward to continuing and growing the legacy of ACE athletes. Amelia also has roles as Vice President of Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), Community Service Team, as well as is on the board of Athletes in Medicine at Stanford (AIMS).

Caroline Jacobsen is a junior from Tallahassee, Fl who is on the softball team at Duke. She is studying Political Science and Psychology and earning the Markets and Management Studies certificate. Caroline was accepted into the ACE in Thailand program, however due to COVID-19, instead participated in ACE in Place. Through ACE in Place, Caroline had the opportunity to learn about how to best approach civic engagement and better understand how to truly help others all while meeting other Duke and Stanford athletes. Caroline plans to use the information she learned from ACE in Place in all other areas of public service.

Dejanae Davis is a junior at Duke University on the Women's Softball Team majoring in Environmental Science and Policy. She also participates with Athletes in Action on campus. During ACE in Place Dejanae developed a more conscious sense of practicing service ethically, which allowed her to reflect on her past service experiences and prepare for future endeavors. As her major shows, Dejanae is passionate about the environment and specifically environmental equity and justice. Dejanae plans to continue a career post college in environmental science, pushing for equity within and between communities along the way.

Eve Micco is a junior on the Stanford Women's Gymnastics team. She is studying management science and engineering with a concentration in operations and data analytics. Eve participated in the first ever year of ACE in Place. This offered her a unique ACE experience and provided her with the opportunity to learn more about ethical service, meet other ACE participants, and more. She is hoping to share her experience with teammates and other student athletes to encourage them to learn more about ACE.

Joe Cullen is a junior on the Cross Country and Track Team at Duke. He is double majoring in Economics and Psychology with a concentration in Finance. ACE in Place allowed Joe to learn about the ethics of service and also highlighted the importance of adaptability within the context of service, and more broadly, our world. Joe, who is from Wyomissing, Pennsylvania, hopes to combine what he learned about ethics and service with ACE in Place to enjoy a more purposeful and helpful career.

Ellie Winslow is a senior at Duke on the Women's Swimming and Diving Team studying public policy with minors in Spanish and political science. Born in Columbus, Ohio, Ellie is a captain and Scholar All-American on the Duke Swimming & Diving team. In the summer of 2020, Ellie participated in ACE in Place and had the opportunity to interact virtually with Duke and Sanford student-athletes. After this experience, Ellie hopes to serve as an English Teaching Assistant in Spain and encourage young students to be active members of our global society. Ellie is passionate about gender equality in sports, politics, and in the world at large. She plans to pursue a law degree upon completion of undergraduate studies.
