Ambassador 2020-2021-3

Published by Vale Saavedra
Maddie Dailey is a Junior on the Beach Volleyball Team and is pursuing a degree in Biology and a minor in Computer Science. She participated in the ACE in Place programming and was very grateful for the opportunity to reflect on service abroad in greater depth than expected. She learned to think more deeply about the rippling effects of her actions in another country and to take more action at home in order to help others, especially in today's current social and political climate. Education has always been a large part of Maddie's life and while she was ecstatic to help fellow students in Thailand this summer, the experience of ACE in Place was eye-opening nonetheless. She looks forwards to continuing to be an active part of the ACE community and hopefully pursuing a career that combines her love for medicine, computer science, and global health.

Kelsey is now a junior on the open weight women's rowing team. She is from Connecticut, and had no extended experiences in other countries before her ACE experience. As a product design and art major, preserving the artisan weaving and cultural art in Peru drew her interest. She had previously participated in shorter international service experiences, drawing her to the extended service opportunity and cultural immersion that ACE offers. Kelsey's goals for the program included having a positive impact on the community, learning from community members, and creating lasting relationships with the other student-athletes on the trip. She is looking forward to working with other ACE alumni to help the Stanford community stay impactful. View Kelsey's ambassador profile.

Isabella is a senior on Stanford's Lightweight Rowing team. She is majoring in Human Biology, minoring in Symbolic Systems, and pursuing a career in medicine. After running an English and sports summer camp in Shangri-La, China, she returned to campus to lead an after-school erging program that unites middle school students behind an appreciation for physical activity and teamwork. Additionally, her experiences abroad have inspired her to inform the Stanford community about global and local disparities and opportunities through her service in the Global Health Student Council and Cardinal Free Clinics. In her everyday life, she continues to integrate what she learned three summers ago about her athletic, racial, and cultural identity and the importance of self-love and vulnerability.
