This fall, the 2024 ACE Programs—Panama, South Africa, and Costa Rica—reunited after a summer filled with unforgettable experiences. ACE Summer 2024 participants gathered at the Duke Campus Farm for a “make your own pizza” evening to reflect on their journeys and to engage in meaningful discussions.

The Duke Campus Farm holds a special significance for ACE, particularly as it is home to ACE in Colorado 2022 ACE alum Christina Ferrari, the farm’s current Sloss Fellow. During the reunion, the student-athletes engaged in a discussion with Christina, learning about the farm and how her ACE experience continues to shape her work. Following the conversation, participants explored the farm, discovering its diverse offerings, from vegetables to compost and even bees. As they wandered, students reconnected with their own ACE programs and had the opportunity to meet peers from other programs, all while harvesting tomatoes for their pizzas.

Once everyone gathered under the gazebo, the pizza-making began. Divided into three tables, students socialized with both old and new friends, sharing stories about their experiences. Guided by thoughtful questions and their own curiosity, conversations flowed in many directions. The next hour was filled with laughter and connections as the ACE programs united to celebrate their shared journeys.

As the evening drew to a close, the group formed a circle. One by one, students shared insights about their fellow participants, other programs, or new friendships they had formed. This final moment allowed everyone to reflect on how ACE has impacted them and others, strengthening connections and inspiring thoughts on how to apply their experiences throughout the year.
