I believe that the ACE Program has a lot of worth; it is an incredible opportunity to break out of the Duke bubble and to learn about other parts of the world. It’s a chance to dive into a local community and to immerse myself in a different culture, to help and to learn from those around me and to break out of my comfort zone.”

As part of the Duke in South Africa program, Elizabeth will assist with basic healthcare initiatives, activity-based education and teaching, light construction, and sports programs in the community of Nomzamo township near Cape Town.

Elizabeth’s past experiences with service include membership in the Collegiate Pre-Medical Experience, a mentor position for ACTION, membership in Alpha Phi Sorority and in the Baldwin Scholars program.
