As a DI Athlete at Duke, participating in ACE in South Africa allows for the blending of an opportunity for personal growth as well as community growth beyond my traditional academic and athletic pursuits. This opportunity allows me to explore a new culture while meaningfully contributing to people’s lives.
Kaiya’s past experiences with volunteering and community engagement include being a Girls On the Run coach throughout high school, participating in a service-learning course, and working in the Durham Public Schools. Additionally, she spent many hours after Hurricane Ida cleaning up local areas and relocating individuals who were affected.
