Environmentalism is something that I have become more passionate about as I’ve grown older, and participating in ACE this summer allows me to explore myself and the environment outside of the context of Duke’s campus and the U.S. while also fostering solid relationships with those I would not normally interact with. What excites me the most about my upcoming ACE experience is the wildlife in Costa Rica and the chance to meet new people.
Sydney’s past experiences with volunteering and community engagement includes volunteering as a lacrosse coach at different camps and clinics, including those that highlight young black girls in the sport of lacrosse. She also is involved in volunteering at a local museum in Maryland called the Sandy Spring Slave Museum where she helps run events for the Sandy Spring community and completes secretarial work.
