I applied to ACE because I wanted to explore more ways to expand my service experience. The fact that the experience was virtual actually strongly appealed to me. Not only could I gain valuable experience and participate in a valuable civic engagement project, but I could do it from any location. This allowed me to maintain my training schedule and participate in ACE which was huge for me. I also knew that I would still be gaining cultural knowledge of whichever country I was participating in through the program.

Because of the virtual aspect of the program I didn’t know what to expect coming into the program. However, this program was everything that I thought it was going to be and much more. I had an incredible three weeks. Not only did I get to participate in an amazing project for shark conservation, I also got to meet some very cool people through the process.

The fact that the experience was virtual actually strongly appealed to me.

I really enjoyed that we had a cultural liaison, Mu, throughout the entire program. Mu taught us a lot about Thailand and brought a fresh, new perspective to our many discussions. I liked the experiences and questions that he brought to the table. They made me think more deeply about how other cultures view world issues and that cultural integration is key whenever we are trying to instill major and lasting change
